The situation
This Kobelco SK210 belongs to the older series of the model, with the engine managed by a Bosch EDC7UC31. The machine was mechanically sound. The AdBlue system was not: DEF faults, warnings and the derate that follows kept taking the excavator out of service, and on an older machine the cost of chasing SCR components quickly exceeds what the repair is worth.
The dealer asked for the AdBlue system handled in software, via OBD, so that the ECU stays in the machine and the job can be done on site.
What we did
The EDC7UC31 was read via OBD and the file developed for this software version.
- AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled. The excavator no longer depends on DEF supply or on the condition of the SCR system.
- Engine calibration: left stock – no power stage was part of this job.
Checksum corrected and the file written via OBD – no bench work, the ECU stays in the machine.
The result
No more downtime from AdBlue trouble. For the contractor this means an older excavator that keeps working a full shift instead of waiting for SCR parts. The EDC7UC31 in the older SK210 series is handled via OBD; the file is developed from the original read of each machine – the software version decides what the file looks like.
