| Machine | Case CX145C SR (excavator) |
|---|---|
| Engine | Isuzu, 2.9 l, 106 hp stock |
| Solution | DPF off* + EGR off* |
The situation
The CX145C SR is a compact-radius excavator in the 15 t class, and the 2.9 l Isuzu engine with 106 hp is well matched to it. The problem on this machine was not output but availability. The DPF produced fault messages and regeneration cycles that interrupted work, and each unexplained message meant a workshop visit that the excavator could not afford on a running site. The EGR system added to it: recirculated soot in the intake, a slow loss of combustion efficiency and higher fuel consumption for the same work.
The contractor wanted the fault messages gone and the excavator back on site for full shifts, with the engine running as efficiently as the hardware allows.
What we did
The engine ECU was read and the file developed for this software version.
- DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and sensors neutralised – no forced regenerations, no DPF-related fault messages and no workshop visits for a filter that is no longer in the way of the engine.
- EGR: valve closed in software – clean intake, no recirculated soot, stable combustion temperatures. Combustion efficiency improves, which shows up as lower fuel consumption at the same work rate.
The power maps were left as they are. Checksum corrected and the file written to the ECU.
The result
No fault messages, no regeneration stops and an engine that breathes freely. The excavator works more efficiently, uses less fuel for the same cycle and stays on site instead of in the workshop. For the contractor this means lower running costs per hour and a machine that can be planned with. Files for the CX145C SR are developed from the original read of each machine, not from a generic base – the software version decides what the file looks like.
