Dimsport on off-highway machines: New Genius, New Trasdata and TheGenius

Three tools, one plugin system: what the Dimsport line covers on tractors, construction machines and trucks, which connection each job needs, and where the cable information actually lives.

Dimsport, from Serralunga di Crea in Italy, is one of the longest-standing tool lines in agricultural tuning. Many dealers started on a Dimsport master or slave long before KESS3 or Autotuner covered tractors, and a large share of the machine files we see still come from New Genius or New Trasdata. Every machine page in our catalogue now shows the matching rows of the current Dimsport application list, with protocol, connection and plugin.

The tools and what each one is for

  • New Genius reads and writes through the diagnostic socket. In the application list its protocols are named FLASH_xxxx. A protocol marked with an asterisk is write-only: that ECU does not allow reading over OBD, so the original has to come from the bench.
  • New Trasdata works on the ECU itself. The list gives a CPU family (TF001, TF003 …) and a “bench mode” flag. With bench mode the ECU is read through its own connector and stays closed; without it the job runs in boot or BDM mode with the housing opened.
  • TheGenius is the newer platform that combines both ways of working. Most of the recent off-highway plugins – the HVR unlock for Bosch MDG1, Bosch ECM4 on the bench, the Caterpillar ADEM III and A6M12 plugins – have been released for TheGenius only.
  • MyGenius is the slave unit tied to a master. The master decides which files the slave can write.

What the current list covers off-highway

Counted from the list itself: one row is one vehicle, engine and ECU combination. The most frequent controller families off-highway are Bosch EDC17, the Cummins CM2xxx range, John Deere Phoenix, Bosch EDC7, Volvo EMS2, the Temic PLD units of Mercedes-Benz trucks and the Bosch MD1 family.

Plugins: the number that decides the connection

Every New Trasdata and TheGenius job runs on a plugin, and the application list gives the plugin numbers for each vehicle – often two or three alternatives, for example a bench plugin and a boot plugin for the same ECU. The plugin handbook inside the software (Info plugin → Documentation) shows the wiring and the pin assignment for that ECU. A plugin can only be used when it is active in the tool’s contract: in the plugin list, active plugins are shown in bold, inactive ones in grey, and plugins released after the contract has expired stay inactive until it is renewed.

On our machine pages the plugin numbers are listed next to each ECU, so you can check before the machine is in the workshop whether your tool has the plugin enabled.

Cables: why there is no cable number per machine

This is where Dimsport differs most from Alientech. KESS3 uses machine-specific cables with part numbers; Dimsport does not. For bench and boot work, the Trasdata and TheGenius kits contain universal cables with colour-coded terminals in five sizes – the largest for supply and ground, the smallest for fine-pitch signal pins. Which terminal goes on which pin is shown in the plugin handbook. For OBD work, New Genius connects with its cable and the adapter that matches the machine’s diagnostic socket; which socket a machine has is covered in diagnostic connectors on off-highway machines.

The one cable with a part number. The HVR unlock for locked Bosch MDG1 units needs the HVR adapter cable F36TG108, plus a TheGenius software update. Everything else on the bench is done with the standard terminal cables.

Sources: Dimsport news and the weekly “RACE new applications” releases. HVR mode needs the ECU opened and a resistor removed for the unlock; the first plugins required tgOS 3.2.0.0 / firmware 1.9.0.0.0, later ones tgOS 3.3.0.0 / firmware 1.10.0.0.0. We add new off-highway releases to our weekly tool digest under News → Tools.

Practical points

  • Check the plugin before the job, not at the machine: an inactive plugin is the most common reason a Trasdata job stops at the start.
  • For write-only protocols (asterisk in the list), get the original from the bench first. A file we build from an OBD read that did not include the original takes longer and carries more risk.
  • Locked MDG1 units are not an OBD job. HVR means opening the ECU – plan the time and the workplace for it.
  • Send us the complete read and tell us which plugin or protocol you used. It saves a round of questions on checksums and file layout.

Where we fit

We supply files for reads made with New Genius, New Trasdata and TheGenius, as well as KESS3 and Autotuner, for dealers and workshops only. The machine pages show what Dimsport lists for each model; the file itself – Stage 1, DTC work and, where the market allows it, emission-related solutions for off-road or export use – comes from our engineers and the 24/7 automatic server in the dealer portal.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dimsport support tractors over OBD?

Yes, for most of them. In the current list about nine out of ten agricultural rows have a New Genius protocol. Where the protocol is write-only or missing, the read is done on the bench with New Trasdata or TheGenius.

Which cable do I need for a bench job?

No machine-specific one. The universal terminal cables of the kit are used, wired as the plugin handbook shows for that ECU. Only the HVR unlock needs its own adapter cable, F36TG108.

Do the new TheGenius plugins also run on New Trasdata?

Dimsport releases them as exclusive to the TheGenius platform. Check the release note of each plugin before planning the job.

Read with Dimsport – and what goes into the file?

Tell us the machine, the ECU and the plugin you used. You get an honest answer on what is realistic before anything is ordered.
