The situation
The Kobelco SK210 is a crawler excavator that works long days in earthmoving, where the engine sits at a steady high load while the hydraulics do the work. On this machine the whole exhaust after-treatment had become a cost factor: AdBlue supply and SCR faults, DPF regenerations that interrupt the cycle, and an EGR system that fouls over time.
The dealer asked for a complete package – more usable power at the stick and the after-treatment handled in software – and wanted it done via OBD with his Dimsport New Genius, with the ECU left in the machine.
What we did
The ECU was read via OBD with Dimsport New Genius and the file developed for this software version.
- Stage 1: injection quantity, rail pressure and boost adjusted within the limits of the stock hardware – more torque where the hydraulic pump demands it, with a stable delivery under load.
- AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled.
- DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and sensors neutralised.
- EGR: valve closed in software – clean intake, stable combustion temperatures.
Checksum corrected and the file written via OBD with the same tool – no bench work, the ECU stays in the machine.
The result
More power under load, no regenerations, no AdBlue warnings and no derate. For the contractor this means an excavator that behaves the same at the end of the shift as at the start and no longer stops for the after-treatment. The complete solution for the SK210 is handled via OBD; the file is developed from the original read of each machine – the software version decides what the file looks like.
