Merlo TF40.7: AdBlue and EGR fault messages handled on the Bosch EDC17CV52

The situation

The TF40.7 is a telehandler that moves between yard, site and field, which means short cycles, a lot of idling and frequent cold starts. That duty profile is hard on the after-treatment. On this machine the driver had recurring fault messages in the display, sometimes AdBlue, sometimes EGR, without a mechanical fault behind them that would have justified a workshop visit each time. Every message is a distraction at best and a derate at worst.

The operator did not ask for more power. The request to the dealer was clear: handle the AdBlue and EGR systems in software so that the display stays quiet and the telehandler simply works.

What we did

The EDC17CV52 was read and the file developed for this software version. The Bosch EDC17CV52 offers several options on this platform; in this case only the two systems that caused the faults were addressed.

  • AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled. The machine no longer depends on DEF supply or on SCR sensors that throw faults.
  • EGR: valve closed in software – clean intake, no recirculated soot, stable combustion temperatures and no EGR-related codes.

The power maps were left untouched. Checksum corrected and the file written to the ECU.

The result

A quiet display, no AdBlue or EGR fault messages and no derate. The engine runs with a clean intake and stable combustion, which the operator notices as a steadier response under load even though no power file was applied. For the contractor this means a telehandler that is available every morning and fewer unplanned trips to the workshop for faults that had no mechanical cause. Files for the EDC17CV52 are developed from the original read of each machine, not from a generic base – the software version decides what the file looks like.
