The situation
The Komatsu PC360LC is a large crawler excavator that spends its working day at steady high load in earthmoving and loading work. The Cummins engine in this machine is managed by the CM2250 ECU, and it was not the engine that produced the downtime – it was the exhaust after-treatment. DPF regenerations interrupt the digging cycle, rising back-pressure costs power, and an EGR system that fouls over time pulls down reliability.
The contractor asked the dealer for a solution that keeps the excavator working without after-treatment interruptions. No power stage was requested for this machine; the engine calibration itself stays stock.
What we did
The Cummins CM2250 was read and the file developed for this software version.
- DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and the associated sensors neutralised, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled.
- EGR: valve closed in software – clean intake, no recirculated soot, stable combustion temperatures.
Checksum corrected and the file written back to the ECU.
The result
No regenerations, no DPF-related derate and no EGR fouling. For the operator this means an excavator that works the full shift without stopping for the after-treatment, and a hydraulic system that gets the engine power it is designed for. Files for the CM2250 are developed from the original read of each machine, not from a generic base – the software version decides what the file looks like.
