The situation
The Bosch MD1CE101 is the ECU on the current generation of FPT engines in New Holland, Case and Steyr tractors, in Claas machines and in FPT Industrial applications. For a long time it was a closed door: the MD1 generation could not be read via OBD, which meant opening the ECU on the bench for every job, with the time, the risk and the dealer logistics that come with it.
For dealers this was the main reason why a growing share of the newest tractors in the yard could not be served the way the previous ECU generation could.
What we did
OBD access to the MD1CE101 was tested across the brands that use the FPT engine, including the newest series.
- Read / write: the MD1CE101 is now read and written via OBD – no opening of the ECU, no bench work, the job is done on the machine.
- Stage 1: available for the tested FPT engines, developed individually per software version within the limits of the stock hardware.
- AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled*.
- Tested brands: New Holland, Case, Steyr, Claas and a number of FPT Industrial engines.
Every file is developed from the original read of the individual ECU – the software version decides what the file looks like.
The result
The newest FPT-powered tractors with the MD1CE101 can now be handled via OBD in one visit instead of on the bench. For dealers this means shorter turnaround, less risk and a far wider range of current machines they can offer a file for.
