The situation
The ECR88D is a short-radius compact excavator that is bought for tight sites, but it is still expected to dig like a full-size machine. The Kubota engine under the hood is sized for the class, and with a wide bucket in heavy ground the hydraulics ask for more than it delivers – the engine speed drops, the cycle slows down.
The contractor wanted more usable power at the stick without changing anything on the hardware, and with the job done on site, not on the bench.
What we did
The Denso ECU was read via OBD with Dimsport New Genius and the file developed for this software version – no opening of the ECU, no bench work.
- Stage 1: injection quantity and torque limits adjusted within the limits of the stock Kubota hardware – more torque where the hydraulic pump demands it and a steadier engine speed under load.
- DPF and EGR: not part of this job. Both can be handled in software on request* – regeneration logic disabled, EGR valve closed in software – where the operator’s market permits it.
Checksum corrected and the file written via OBD with the same tool.
The result
An excavator that holds its engine speed in heavy ground and digs faster cycles with a full bucket. For the operator this means less waiting for the engine and a machine that works like the next size up on a tight site. The Denso ECU on this Kubota engine is fully covered via OBD, which keeps the job quick for the dealer – read, develop, write, done in one visit.
