Wirtgen WR240i: AdBlue, DPF and EGR handled in software on the MCM2.1

MachineWirtgen WR240i (soil stabiliser / recycler)
EngineMercedes
ECUSiemens/Continental MCM2.1
SolutionAdBlue/SCR off* + DPF off* + EGR off*
Read / writeMCM and ACM both read – required for the AdBlue solution

The situation

The WR240i is a soil stabiliser and cold recycler that runs at full load with the rotor in the ground, on road rehabilitation, foundations and stabilisation jobs. The Mercedes engine under the Siemens/Continental MCM2.1 has the reserve for that duty. The after-treatment is where the downtime comes from: AdBlue faults, DPF regenerations in the middle of a pass and an EGR system that raises intake temperatures and builds deposits over time.

The contractor wanted the fault messages gone and a machine that stays in the ground for a full shift without after-treatment stops.

What we did

On this platform the engine ECU is not enough. The MCM2.1 handles the engine, while the SCR dosing sits in the separate after-treatment module (ACM). For the AdBlue solution both modules have to be read, and both files are developed for their respective software versions.

  • AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software across MCM and ACM, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled. The machine no longer depends on DEF supply.
  • DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and sensors neutralised – no forced regenerations, longer uninterrupted working time.
  • EGR: valve closed in software – lower exhaust gas and intake temperatures, no recirculated soot, less risk of deposits and blockages in the intake.

Checksums corrected and both files written back to their modules.

The result

No fault messages, no regeneration stops and no AdBlue dependency. The machine runs with a clean intake and stable combustion temperatures, so performance stays constant across the shift. For the contractor this means less maintenance on the after-treatment side, more metres stabilised per day and a machine that is ready for the next project. For dealers: on the MCM2.1 always send the MCM read and the ACM read together – without the ACM the AdBlue solution cannot be developed.
