New Holland L216: Stage 1 plus DPF off on the IHI Shibaura engine

Machine New Holland L216 (skid steer loader)
Engine IHI Shibaura
ECU CNH
Solution Stage 1 + DPF off*
Read / write Bench via Dimsport Trasdata

The situation

The L216 is a compact skid steer loader that spends its day in short cycles: load, turn, dump, repeat. The small IHI Shibaura engine runs at low speed for long stretches, which is exactly the duty profile a diesel particulate filter dislikes. Active regenerations interrupt the work and, when they fail, the machine ends up in derate or in the workshop.

The farm wanted the loader to simply run, with a bit more pull on the bucket and without the regeneration cycle dictating the working day.

What we did

The CNH ECU on the IHI Shibaura engine is not accessible via OBD for this job, so the ECU was read on the bench via Dimsport Trasdata and the file developed for this software version.

  • Stage 1: injection quantity and torque limits adjusted within the limits of the stock hardware – more usable torque at the low engine speeds a skid steer actually works at.
  • DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and the related sensors and DTCs handled in software.

Checksum corrected and the file written back on the bench.

The result

A loader that pulls better in the bucket and no longer stops for regenerations. For the operator this means fewer interruptions, no DPF-related derate and a machine that behaves the same on the last hour of the day as on the first. The same solution has been tested on the IHI Shibaura engine with CNH ECU in Wacker Neuson, Weidemann, New Holland and Case machines – the software version of the individual ECU decides what the final file looks like.
