The situation
The A134 is a compact standard tractor that does a bit of everything on a mixed farm: tillage, mowing, loader work and road transport. Stock, it is calibrated for a broad market, not for the way an individual farm uses it. Fuel is one of the largest variable costs on that farm, and every litre per hour that the tractor does not need is money that stays in the business.
The farm wanted a tractor that pulls better in heavy work and at the same time uses less fuel – not a maximum-power file, but a calibration built around efficiency.
What we did
The engine ECU was read and the file developed for this software version.
- Eco: injection timing, injection quantity and boost adjusted within the limits of the stock hardware so that the engine produces its torque at lower rpm and with a more complete combustion. The tractor can run heavy implements in a higher gear at lower engine speed, which is where the fuel saving comes from.
- Power: more usable torque under load without raising the peak beyond what the driveline is designed for – the gain is in the working range, not on paper.
Checksum corrected and the file written to the ECU.
The result
More pull in the field, faster work rates and lower fuel consumption per hectare. For the farm this means lower operating costs and a tractor that handles the demanding jobs with reserve instead of at its limit. Eco files for the A134 are developed from the original read of each tractor – the software version decides what the file looks like.
