The situation
The SWE155F is a 15.6 t excavator built for everyday earthmoving, and the 93 kW engine under the Cummins CM2350 is sized for exactly that. What limits the machine in daily use is not the engine but the exhaust after-treatment around it: AdBlue supply and monitoring, DPF regenerations that interrupt the cycle, and an EGR system that fouls the intake over time. Each of these can trigger a fault, and each fault can end in derate on site.
The contractor running this machine wanted more usable torque at the stick and an end to the after-treatment interruptions, so that the excavator keeps working through a full shift.
What we did
The CM2350 was read and the file developed for this software version.
- Stage 1: injection quantity, rail pressure and boost adjusted within the limits of the stock hardware – more torque where the hydraulic pump demands it, with a stable delivery across the working rpm range.
- AdBlue/SCR: dosing and level monitoring deactivated in software, related DTCs and the derate strategy handled. The machine no longer depends on DEF supply.
- DPF: regeneration logic disabled, back-pressure model and sensors neutralised – no forced regenerations, no stops in the middle of a job.
- EGR: valve closed in software – clean intake, no recirculated soot, stable combustion temperatures.
Checksum corrected and the file written to the ECU.
The result
More torque under load, no regenerations, no AdBlue warnings and no derate. With no back-pressure and a clean intake the engine also runs more efficiently. For the contractor this means fewer stops, lower maintenance effort on the after-treatment side and an excavator that behaves the same at the end of the shift as at the start. Files for the CM2350 are developed from the original read of each machine, not from a generic base – the software version decides what the file looks like.
